The Produce Lady Team

Brenda Sutton
The face of The Produce Lady program is Brenda Sutton, N.C. Cooperative Extension director in Rockingham County. Brenda grew up on a farm in eastern Wake County and developed a love for good, home-grown food as a child. Good quality, local foods are her passion and she loves sharing healthy, nutritious ways to select, store, prepare and preserve foods from the local farmers market. She’s all about easy, no-nonsense tips that help people incorporate more fresh produce into their diets.

The idea for The Produce Lady program was that of Leah Chester-Davis, coordinator of communications, with the N.C. State University Plants for Human Health Institute. Leah also grew up on a farm and shares a love of fresh fruits and vegetables and other farm-raised products. She invited Brenda to become “The Produce Lady” and to appear in a series of videos about North Carolina fruits and vegetables and other local food products. In 2010, Leah received a grant from the N.C. Tobacco Trust Fund Commission. Leah has led the program and its expansion to include a website, recipes, blog, food demonstrations at farmers markets and other events, printed materials and YouTube and Facebook pages. She writes and/or edits and produces The Produce Lady materials. Please contact her with any inquiries for using the materials.
